Argosy University in Hawaii recently cleared the air about its accreditation that was questioned by several concerned community members.

Directors Cherie Andrade and Pamela Peralta told the media last week during their presentation in the weekly Saipan Rotary Club meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan that the accreditation of the university is tied with the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges.

Hawaii schools and colleges are supposed to be accredited to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Andrade said the university’s headquarters is located in Chicago, so the school has an NCASC accreditation instead of WASC. She said Argosy University is also accredited with the Higher Learning Commission.

The visit of the two Argosy University officers was prompted by the school’s new relationship with Northern Marianas College.

The university has recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with NMC to utilize some of the community college’s classrooms and lecture halls for two major programs it is offering to local students next semester in January.

Argosy University is offering Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a doctorate program in Education. Andrade said teachers and school administrators who wish to pursue higher learning in education courses could now enroll in the program. She said the program right now only targets select community members due to the relevance of the courses being offered.

Peralta, however, clarified that the program is not from NMC and that students will earn credits and diplomas from Argosy University and not from NMC. “They will not be earning NMC credits,” Peralta said.

The tuition fee for the graduate program cost at least $780 a credit and the program is a 60-credit program for the doctorate course. The cost for the bachelor’s degree program is only $416 per credit. Interested students also are advised to apply directly with Argosy University.

Argosy University is also planning to offer national online courses that allow interested students to take classes via the Internet.
