The Department of Public Safety yesterday released the names of the three persons who were killed in a vehicular collision in Chalan Laulau on Sunday early morning.

Acting DPS spokesman Eric David said the fatalities were Tong Yong Wang, Bao Hus Su, and Chen Xuan Li.

David said Tong was the driver of a white 1997 four-door Honda Civic sedan.

Bao and Chen were Tong’s passengers, the DPS spokesman said.

The three suffered severe injuries to the head and body and were pronounced dead on that same day at the Commonwealth Health Center, police said.

David earlier stated that the driver, Tong, violated a Commonwealth Code that states “it is unlawful to operate any vehicle or bicycle upon any highway which has been divided into two or more lanes by means of intermittent barriers.”

Traffic investigators determined that speed was the factor of the accident and not alcohol.

Injured was 66-year-old Jose C. Tudela, a resident of San Jose. He received a broken collarbone and was admitted at CHC for further treatment, police said.

Tudela was the driver of a black Toyota Tacoma 4X4 truck.

Officers from the DPS Traffic Investigation Unit learned that Tudela was operating his truck on north direction when he saw the white sedan traveling on the opposite lane along Beach Road near B&R Auto Shop intersection.

The white car operated by Tong suddenly veered into the north-bound lane and collided with Tudela’s truck, police said.

Meanwhile, David also identified yesterday the man who died while he was playing tennis at the American Memorial Park tennis courts in Garapan on Monday night.

David said the victim was 48-year-old Berman P. Higgins, a Pohnpeian.

Police learned that Higgins was playing doubles at 6:04pm when he complained of chest pain.

The victim was chasing the ball when he suddenly collapsed. He was transported to the nearby CHC where a doctor pronounced him dead at 6:22pm on the same day.

Higgins had already played one game before joining the doubles that went three sets, police said, adding that there was no foul play and stated that the victim died possibly of heart attack.
