The Northern Marianas College yesterday morning gave away free tickets for this weekend’s Liaocheng Acrobatics Troupe of China show to 10 students under the Public School System’s Special Education Program.

NMC president Tony Deleon Guerrero presented the tickets to PSS Acting Commissioner of Education David M. Borja at the NMC Board of Regents conference room. NMC Finance and Procurement director Raaj Kurapati also attended the presentation.

Deleon Guerrero said event organizer NMC Foundation is very thankful to PSS for allowing them to use the Marianas High School Gymnasium for the show. He also said the public school has also been instrumental in distributing the tickets to parents, students, and other community members.

He also personally thanked the contribution of Dan Dan Elementary School principal Jonas Barcinas, San Vicente Elementary School principal Janet Villagomez, and William S. Reyes Elementary School principal Alfred Ada.

He also expressed his gratitude to other principals who assisted the foundation in promoting the shows this weekend. Four tickets for adults and six tickets for children were also given away.

The acting commissioner thanked the NMC president for the free tickets. He told NMC officials that he would give the tickets to SPED coordinator Joanne Nicholls.

Kurapati said the college and the foundation is hoping for a great turnout for the event, which he believes will be a family-oriented and cause-worthy one.

The Liaocheng Acrobatics Troupe of China visited Kagman schools Wednesday morning and provided a glimpse of what to expect in their show.

The group, composed of 27 highly skilled young members, arrived on Saipan yesterday at 2am in the morning.

NMC Foundation president Jerry Tan earlier said the event is a fundraising activity of the organization with net proceeds from the show going to NMC.

The event is the third fundraising activity of the foundation in 2005. The foundation first held a golf tournament early this year and a major concert that featured the Philippines’ “Concert King” Martin Nievera in July.

Shows will be held on Dec. 2, 3, and 4 at the MHS Gymnasium. Shows start tonight and tomorrow at 7pm and on Sunday the event will have a matinee show starting at 4pm. Doors will open at 6pm for the evening shows and at 3pm for the matinee shows.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children age 12 years and below. Children age three years old and under are free of charge. To ensure availability of tickets, organizers are suggesting for interested parties purchase their tickers early. Tickets are sold at all Joeten Stores and Shirley’s Coffee Shops. Tickets are also sold at the Saipan Tribune office.

The Liaocheng Acrobatics Troupe of China was established in 1955 and has grown through generations. The acrobatics troupe is renowned for its trademark death-defying acts and stunts such as the “Love of dish-flowers,” skills among four, circle running, “Blue silk in the dream,” “Light of gentle and charming,” pose of chairs, flying skills, leap of climbing pole, and many more.

Pepsi, Joeten Enterprises, Inc., 103.0 KZMI, McDonald’s, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan and Tan Holdings Foundation are major sponsors of the event. Co-sponsors include Chong’s Corporation, Aon Insurance, FAS Moving and Storage, Shirley’s Coffee Shops, Saipan Tribune, and Century Travel and Tour Agency Ltd.
