An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 occurred 65 miles east-southeast of Rota yesterday afternoon, according to the Emergency Management Office.

The magnitude was “too small” to cause damage to property, Juan T. Camacho, EMO’s geophysical seismic technician, told the Saipan Tribune.

“Rota did not even feel it. Nobody from Rota, Tinian and Saipan called us that they felt the earthquake,” Camacho said.

EMO said based on all available data, there were no tsunami watch or warnings issued for the Northern Mariana Islands.

In its special bulletin, EMO said based on the information received from the National Earthquake Information Center and compiled by the EMO, the earthquake was recorded at 2:54pm 95 miles south-southeast of Saipan and 170 miles south-southeast of Anatahan.
