DPS to conduct sobriety checkpoints next week

The Department of Public Safety Traffic Section would be conducting sobriety checkpoints at different locations on Saipan on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3.

Two sobriety checkpoints would be conducted next Wednesday, Nov. 30. The first set up will be on Beach Road Susupe by Minatchom Atdao and will commence at approximately 8pm and will be terminated at approximately 9:15pm.

The second set up will on Beach Road Chalan Kanoa by Meena’s Store and will commence at approximately 10:30pm and will be terminated at approximately 11:45pm.

Sobriety checkpoints would resume on Saturday, Dec. 3. The first set up will be on 2W Highway Garapan by CNMI Museum and will commence at approximately 4pm and will be terminated at approximately 5:15pm.

The second set up will be on 2W Highway Tanapag by Top Fashion Garment and will commence at approximately 9pm and will be terminated at approximately 10:15pm.

The third set up will be on Beach Road Illiyan by China House Restaurant and will commence at approximately 1:30am and will be terminated at approximately 2:45am.

The fourth set up will be on 2W Highway Gualo Rai by Saipan Cockpit and will commence at approximately 1:30 am and will be terminated at approximately 2:45 am.

Both third and fourth checkpoints will be set up and in operation simultaneously.

Each checkpoint conducted will last at least 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) at each location. This activity is part of DPS’ efforts to deter and detect impaired drivers and to ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.

In addition, the traffic officers will be conducting highway criminal interdictions, saturation patrols, aggressive driver interdictions, and laser activities.
