“It’s a new assignment, a new challenge,” according to Capt. Lawrence Camacho, the newly appointed chief of the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.

In a telephone interview with the Saipan Tribune yesterday, Camacho said like any good police or soldier, he just follows orders coming from his superior.

“The most important thing is if you are ordered to move, you have to move. We have a command structure. If the commissioner tells you, I don’t question the order,” said Camacho, who took the position as CIB commander effective last Monday.

Camacho had been assigned at the DPS internal affairs for over 10 years. DPS Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela appointed him to replace Maj. Edward Manalili as CIB head.

He said Manalili kept the CIB “up to par” and that he wants to keep it that way or even make it better if he sees there are more to be done for improvement. (Ferdie de la Torre)
