A man accused of striking a woman with a metal spoon has entered a guilty plea.

Roland B. Martin pleaded guilty to assault and battery.

Superior Court Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama accepted Martin’s plea and sentenced him to one year in jail, all suspended except 40 days.

Following a plea agreement, Lizama gave Martin credit for the 40 days he already served in jail.

The judge placed the defendant on 10 months probation and ordered him to pay $125 in fine and court assessment fees.

Martin was also directed to perform 20 hours of community work service and write a letter of apology to the victim.

The Attorney General’s Office charged the defendant with assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. He entered a plea agreement with the government and pleaded guilty to assault and battery. The remaining charge was dismissed pursuant to the agreement.

The factual basis of the agreement stated that on July 19, 2005, Martin struck the victim with a metal spoon.

No other details were given in the documents. (Ferdie de la Torre)
