The Indians got impressive performances from Simon Kapileo and defeated the Chiefs, 97-83, as action in the 2005 Budweiser-Bud Light Bowlliards Tournament continued Monday night at the USS Peleliu Club in Garapan.

After an even first frame, the Indians settled down and took the lead in the second frame, one that they would hold for the rest of the night. With the score knotted at 4-4, Mei Rengil stepped up to the table and knocked down seven points, three better than the Chiefs’ Oscar Sablan for an 11-8 lead.

The Indians padded their lead to six points after the fourth frame, but weren’t able to hold their ground as the Chiefs came storming back with a seven-point charge in the fifth frame to cut the deficit back to three, 24-27.

Fortunately for the Indians, Kapileo took charge and pocketed all 10 balls in the sixth frame. Albert Gurusamy pocketed another point before missing, resulting in 11 points earned by Kapileo.

The Indians held the comfortable lead until Gary Chisato came through with a strike of his own, fueling a Chiefs comeback. Chisato headed to the table with his team down 34-50, and by the time he took a seat, the Chiefs were trailing by just four points, 46-50.

The Indians managed to pad their lead and finally pulled away courtesy of Kapileo, who was on target during his turn and knocked in another 10 balls while getting three points added from the next frame.

The Indians then held on with no trouble closing out the win.

Kapileo finished with a game-high 24 points, while Rengil added 12 points for the Indians. Chisato led the Chiefs with 16 points, while Gary Orpiano supported with 12 points.
