Hot Myx hops into first at PIC
Hot Myx won the battle of the one-loss wonders on Tuesday night as they dropped America F@#& Yeah! after benefiting from a first set forfeit to take the lead in the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League in a nail-biter that came down to extra points for the clincher.
The win propelled Hot Myx to a 9-1 record and gave them a lead over America F@#& Yeah! (8-2), and they did so without the aid of power slammer Marconi Calindas rolling around in the sand.
The Myx caught a break in the beginning when they were handed an 11-0 first set win as America was unable to field a four-person squad, but Mark McDonald summoned the powers of punctuality to produce another player, and America F@#& Yeah! tied the game at a set apiece with a narrow 11-9 win.
The action poured into the third set as the teams continued to scrap for every point, but the Hot Myx dug deep to find that they had a little more down there to pull out an equally nerve-wracking 12-10 victory.
America F@#& Yeah! also fell just behind Palaksi (8-2) as a result of scoring less, allowing more points, and winning less sets. The three-way combo put them a sliver behind in third place, but Jon Cramer and the Got Beer? crew are breathing down their necks down by only a half game.
Cramer’s cronies lost a close contest on Tuesday to captain Quincy Johnson’s Puff, Puff, Pass, but “Q” was not on hand to witness his team’s pounding at the hands of his boss. After cruising to a relatively easy 11-2 win in the opener, Got Beer? poured on the suds to eke out a 12-10 win in the second to clinch the game.
Got Beer? never gave up in the third, as the Clubmate-led squad went the distance to get the sweep in the 11-5 win.
The sweeping trend continued in the school segment as well with the Dolphins of Marianas High School falling to Aschaabw, 11-0, 11-6, and 11-7 in straight sets. Were it not for the inspirational Dolphins battle squeak, the best from MHS would have done much less.
The loss sent the top students of the league to 2-8 while Aschaabw climbed to 4-6 in the meaningful victory. The 11th consecutive loss for the Sugoi Seven was also meaningful, as they exercised proper communication and almost pulled one out over Galuti.
After getting rocked 11-1 in the opener, the Sugoi Seven refocused to tie the match at a set apiece with a “Sugoi” effort in an 11-9 win. Despite their rally, the Seven fell to Catherine Chapman and Galuti (7-3) in the finale, 11-3, in which points came at a premium.
Due to today’s holiday, there will be no league volleyball games at the PIC tonight, but action will resume next Tuesday, Nov. 29, when the Grace Christian Academy Eagles try to put one over on Pugua Time! at 5:30pm.
