The rich got richer and the poor got even more miserable this past Thursday at the Pacific Islands Club as the Hot Myx extended their lead atop the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League while the Sugoi Seven fell yet again.

Captain Theo Wong’s team could do no wrong last week as they schooled the students from Saipan International School by a combined three-set score of 33-7 to improve to 8-1 on the season. The win put them on top of this year’s crop along with the idle America F@#& Yeah! while the Geckos are on the other end of the spectrum at 1-8.

At least the SIS squad isn’t in last place, as the Sugoi Seven have a stranglehold on the position after suffering their 10th consecutive loss of the season to the Dolphins of Marianas High School.

The latest loss was perhaps their best showing as the Seven finally had something to play for after tying the set count in the second go round with a thrilling 12-10 victory. The third set was another nail biter, but MHS (2-7) pulled out an 11-8 victory to become the first school team to notch two wins.

The Eagles weren’t so lucky, as the kids from Grace Christian Academy dropped to 1-8 following a sweep at the hands of Namete (4-6). For the second week in a row, Namete fielded a team and proved that they can play when their team shows up.

After scoring 11-6 and 11-7 wins in the first two sets, Namete set the engine on cruise control as they quickly squashed the students, 11-1, in the third.

Jon Cramer and the Got Beer? brew crew lost for only the third time this year on Thursday as Palaksi (8-2) escaped the match with their eighth win to stay within reach of the league’s elite.

There was little room for error as Palaksi clinched the game in the first two sets with back to back 11-9 scores, and they put the icing on the cake in the third with an 11-7 cherry that could come into play in the end of season rankings.

The top seeds in the playoffs are out of reach for You’re My Boy Blue! (4-5) and Pugua Time! (6-3), but the two battled to keep their playoff hopes alive. Pugua Time! continued their winning ways with knockout plays as captain Taula Peter’s bunch of nuts broke out the broom against Dale “the Dread Pirate” Roberts to score 11-8, 11-6, and 12-10 wins.

The action continues tonight when the Dolphins look to find a flaw in Aschaabw at 5:30pm, America F@#& Yeah! tries to knock off Hot Myx in a first place fight at 6:30pm, Puff, Puff, Pass tries to smoke Got Beer? at 7:30pm, and the Sugoi Seven continue their search for their first win against Galuti in the finale at 8:30pm.
