The inaugural Budweiser Monday Night League, organized by the Philippine Bowling Association, returns this evening after giving way for the Pepsi King and Queen of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament last week.

Twelve teams begin Week 3 of the competition tonight at the Saipan Bowling Center in San Jose.

Currently leading the pack is Team Familia with a spotless 4-0 mark, followed by five teams at 3-1—Budweiser, Splitless, Kitz’s Youth Team, Super Fafa, and Star Team. Making up the rest of the 12-team field are J’s Restaurant (1-3), Century Insurance Company-Aon (1-3), Pacific Islands Club 2 (1-3), Saipan Bowling Center, Philippine Consulate General, and PIC 1.

PBA president Jess “Kuya R.J.” Rebusada said that this is the first time the organization is staging a Monday league. He said with the Monday Night League sponsored by MARPAC, now makes six days of the week from Monday to Saturday a bowling night.

“We decided to come out with the Budweiser Monday Night League because a lot of bowlers have been asking for a Monday league for the longest time. There are some bowlers who can’t play in any other weekday night other than Monday night, so this league would help them enjoy their favorite sport in what used to be a non-bowling evening,” he said.

The former disc jockey also said that there would be no conflict with the Saipan Bowling Association-organized monthly Pepsi King and Queen of the Lanes, as attested to PBA and Monday Night League giving way last week.

“We would have no problem taking an off week once SBA holds its monthly King and Queen of the Lanes tournament. We’re here to develop the sport of bowling and would do everything possible to grow bowling on the islands,” he said.

Rebusada also took the time to thank MARPAC and Budweiser for agreeing to bankroll the league. He also extended his gratitude to SBC for hosting the league as well as the corporate sponsors of all 12 teams participating in the bowling event.
