Newcomers lead municipal council races
Newcomers ruled the 2005 general elections for the municipal council seats on all three islands in the CNMI.
The Tudelas reigned supreme in the municipal council races on Saipan as both Marian Deleon Guerrero Tudela and Antonia Manibusan Tudela took two of the three spots open.
Marian DLG. Tudela, a newcomer, and incumbent Antonia M. Tudela got a total of 4,458 and 4,183 votes respectively. Former CNMI Arts Council officer Angel S. Hocog took the third seat with 4,096 votes.
For the Tinian Municipal Council election, the winners are all newcomers. Francisco Cruz won the top spot with 571 points, only seven votes ahead of Charlene Manglona Lizama, who had 564 votes. Trenton Brian Conner, who was ranked four before the counting of the absentee ballots, took the third spot from Eugenio Henry L. Villagomez, who had a 19-vote lead before the absentee ballots came in.
Joey Anthony Quitugua led the Rota Municipal Council votes with 908 votes while Roy James A. Masga ranked second with 775 votes. Incumbent Mametto M. Ayuyu jumped into the third spot with only 582 votes.
The race for the Board of Election member for Saipan proved that incumbent BOE board member Herman T. Guerrero still has the trust and faith of the Saipan community members. He pulled away with a whopping 6,554 votes while his opponent, John Joyner, received a little over half of what the incumbent received.
Lucia Linda Blanco-Maratita won the seat for the BOE board member representing the Tinian community. Maratita won by 103 points over her opponent, Tinian teacher and CNMI historian Don Farrell.
