Mayor Tudela donates $500 to NYBA
The newly established Northern Youth Basketball Association has the backing of number of companies and government agencies and now you could throw Mayor Juan B. Tudela and the Saipan Mayor’s Office into the mix.
Mayor Tudela, who won second term after a landslide victory in the Nov. 5 general election, presented NYBA president Joe Diaz and vice president George Cruz a $500 check Friday at his office in San Antonio. Joining the two NYBA officials in the check presentation were secretary Patrinus Mario and treasurer Esther Sablan.
Mayor Tudela, who prides himself with always being there for the youth, said the money came from leftover funds from the 2005 Liberation Day celebrations. He added that his office would always not hesitate to fund youth projects in the future and reiterated that his long track record in public service proves that.
He said he has always been involved with youth programs and always makes them his top priorities during his tenure at the Legislature (two terms) and commissioner of Garapan (two terms).
Diaz and Cruz thanked Mayor Tudela and the Saipan Mayor’s Office for the contribution and said it would go a long way in helping the youth get involved in sports and other worthwhile activities.
Cruz said NYBA would use the money to send all-star teams from its three divisions—44 players, coaches, and officials in all—to participate in the Regional Cage Fest on Guam set from Dec. 1 to 4.
Diaz said aside from Mayor Tudela and the Saipan Mayor’s Office, other businesses and government officials that have helped NYBA launch its inaugural season are DFS Saipan, Marianas Health Services, Department of Public Health, Community Guidance Center, Rep. Ramon Tebuteb, Rep. Clyde Norita, and Rep. Justo Quitugua.
The 2005 NYBA Tournament unfolds tomorrow, Nov. 21, and concludes on Sunday, Nov. 27. It consists of three divisions: Division I featuring youths from nine to 12 years of age; Division II for kids 13 to 15 years of age; and Division III for cagers 16 to 19 years of age.
