Defending champion Mwaliyas is close to recording its third straight win in as many chances in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League after taking the first two sets against newcomer Just For Fun yesterday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Reigning most valuable player Pedro Iguel got Mwaliyas off on the right foot as he pounded the ball for a goal to start their scoring spree. The first set featured a whopping four goals as teammate Shane Yamada knocked in one as well, followed by another by Iguel, highlighting the team’s 17-9 victory.

Just For Fun’s Kevin Aldan accounted for the other goal—the second of the set.

The goals ended but not the aggressive play of Mwaliyas as the team continued to bruise the ball with all its might in hopes of stretching its win streak. Despite a mishap on first serves, Mwaliyas still dominated and widened its lead to 17 points, 33-16, with a 16-7 win.

Mwaliyas had another service error at the start of the third set but still managed to creep ahead and take the lead courtesy of well-placed shots. Time expired with the defending champions ahead, 5-2.

The third set resumes today at 11:30am with Yamada at serve. If Just For Fun loses the set, they must win the fourth set to prevent Mwaliyas from juicing out. Winning the fourth set will also enable Just For Fun to force o-kon—Rocball term for overtime.

With a win, Mwaliyas will move ahead of B-n-S in the WOR standings. B-n-S is the only other team that has yet to drop a match and holds a 2-0 record.

Yamada was on target all day long and leads the match with 13 points after connecting for two aces, a xunk, two kees, and a goal, while Iguel has 10 points on two goals and two kees. Dennis Camacho and Aldan lead Just For Fun with four and three points. Camacho has two kees and Aldan has a goal.
