Channel V shoots on Saipan
Channel V host Nic Lee and his team said they are excited about airing Saipan to their millions of viewers, saying the island did not fail their expectations as a tropical paradise.
“Saipan is very beautiful. Lots of things I’ve done in my brief visit. One thing I never thought I’d ever do in my entire life is to skydive and I did it here this morning! I can’t forget it,” said an enthusiastic Lee in an interview Monday at Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach.
Lee, 23, a popular TV personality and commercial model in Shanghai, has worked as a VJ for Channel V for three years now. He began his TV career at age 17, endorsing KFC, Nestea, and several other food products. He also dabbles as an actor for TV soap operas.
For his part, Yang Yuan-Ling, a producer for Lee’s Channel V programs, said he wants to see more Chinese tourists in the CNMI.
“Everywhere I look, I see Japanese tourists. I think it’s better if we equal the number with Chinese tourists,” he said, smiling.
He said his team took shots of various places all over Saipan to be shown in their TV programs.
He said Lee’s hosting job is from 8pm to 8:30pm, Monday to Saturday. A replay is shown at midnight.
“We introduce places for people to discover. We show them where the fun is, the places to go,” said Lee.
He said Saipan would be very unique “because it’s a tropical island.” He said they usually show places in Asia.
Yuan-Ling said the show is viewed by several millions of people since it is syndicated by at least 32 TV stations all over China, as well as in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
“We’re very happy about our visit here. I’m sure that our viewers would love to see Saipan, too,” he said.
The team said their trip to Saipan was at the invitation of the Dai-Ichi Hotel.
