SANTA RITA, Guam—Chief of Naval Operations recently announced the reassignment of USS Buffalo (SSN-715) from Hawaii to Guam.

The fast-attack submarine is scheduled to arrive on Guam in fiscal year 2007 following a modernization period in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Family members will be able to begin the relocation process in the fall of 2006.

Buffalo, the Navy’s 25th Los Angeles-class submarine, has a crew of approximately 130 sailors. Like other submarines in her class, Buffalo is capable of carrying the most advanced weapons available to the submarine force. Included in her arsenal are the MK-48 advanced capability torpedo and the Tomahawk land attack cruise missile.

The relocation of the USS Buffalo maintains the U.S. Navy’s commitment to preserve a forward-deployed presence of three submarines in Guam.

Buffalo has been homeported in Pearl Harbor since 1984.
