Mwaliyas, B-n-S, Roligat lead HS Rocball after two rounds
Defending champion Mwaliyas, B-n-S, and Darrel Roligat are currently on top of the World Organized Rocball High School League.
Mwaliyas and B-n-S share top honors after two rounds of play in the 2005 season as both posted successful performances and sport 2-0 win-loss records.
Mwaliyas were taken to the limit on both of their matches, but played like champions by converting in the clutch. They opened their defense of their title with a victory over Caropinos last Oct. 7 and were again taken to o-kon by powerhouse Black Magic before winning last Oct. 21.
For their part, the B-n-S players had an easier time in their debut and trounced Just For Fun, 53-30, last Oct. 18. The team then had to push the right buttons to edge a determined Lagooners squad last Oct. 26. B-n-S trailed after regulation but won the two o-kon sets to succeed.
Four teams are in the middle of the eight-team pack as Malat, Lagooners, Black Magic, and Ochobu split their first two matches of the season. Newcomers Caropinos and Just For Fun have shown improvement each time they took the court and are both 0-2 so far.
Meanwhile, Roligat maintained his lead in the heavy hitter category as the multi-sport athlete played key roles in both Mwaliyas’ victories.
Based on statistics provided by WOR founder James Feger, the Marianas high school junior leads the league with a whopping 30 points after bruising the ball for six aces, three kees, and four goals.
Behind Roligat is veteran and B-n-S scoring leader Myron Laniyo, who has 24 points in his name after drilling seven aces, two xunks, and three kees.
Ichnis Kapwich leads Ochobu with 21 points after pounding away for five aces, a xunk, three kees, and a goal, while Malat’s Julian Fitial connected for seven aces and three xunks for 20 points.
The Lagooners are being led by Tito Francisco, who has recorded five aces, a kee, and a goal for 15 points, while Dior Jones tops Black Magic’s scoring with six aces and a kee for 14 points.
Dennis Camacho leads Just For Fun with 11 points on two aces, a xunk, a kee, and a goal, while Matthew Iguel spearheads Caropinos with two aces and two goals for 10 points.
High school Rocball matches are played daily beginning at 11:30am at the MHS Gymnasium.
