Jhun Calma won the Fil-Taga Golfers Association October Ace of the Month Tournament after firing a net score of 74 last Oct. 16 at the Marianas Country Club in Marpi.

Calma and April A Flight winner Gil Faller actually finished tied behind April B Flight winner Henry Bautista and August Ace winner William Retardo’s net scores of 68 and 70, respectively, but as per club rules, players are only allowed to win one monthly championship per year.

Calma came up big for the ongoing month following a gross score of 91, which minus his 17 handicap, turned out to be the score to beat for October.

Three players finished in second place for the month, a stroke behind Calma, as Fil-Taga president Ted “Golden Bear” Malaran, Tom Aguon, and Nono Bostre all wound up with identical 75s. Malaran came away with a gross score of 91, Aguon 95, and Bostre 104.

Mando Guban (76 net), Mike Cruz (78), Jun “Tiger” Dela Cruz (80), Ed “Put” Macario (80), Pete Reyes (81), Rey Ferraz (81), Ralph Yumul (82), Manny Villaga (82), Cesar Dumatol (83), Nestor Siruelo (85), and Greg De Torres (86) also participated in the monthly tournament.

For more information about Fil-Taga and its monthly tournaments, contact Malaran at 322-1234 or 287-1227.

Established in 1993, Fil-Taga’s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.

A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments.
