Joe Deleon Guerrero bested 22 other players to rule the Saipan Golfers Association Ace of the Month Tournament held Sunday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort east course.

Guerrero swung his clubs like there was no tomorrow and finished the round of golf with a net score of 65. A handicap 23 golfer, Guerrero scored a gross score of 88.

Right in his heels throughout the tournament was Larry Guerrero, who finished two strokes off the pace with a respectable net score 67. He fired a gross score of 89.

Third place went to Luis Cepeda after he came away with a net score of 69 after his 15 handicap trimmed his gross score of 89.

Cepeda actually finished tied with Tony Guerrero after the two carded identical 69s, but the latter took second runner-up honors after beating the former in a scorecard tiebreak.

Junior golfer James Balajadia came away with the lowest gross score of the day after the golf prodigy tamed the greens and fairways with an 81. Retired judge Edward Manibusan (82), Ray San Nicolas (83), Eun Jung Taeck (84), and the aforementioned Tony Guerrero round up Top 5 in the lowest gross score category.

In the closest to the pin contest, Rick Kautz won hole No. 4, Art Guerrero took the plum on hole No. 6, John Cepeda got hole No. 11, and Mark Fajardo likewise pulled off the feat on hole No. 17. Balajadia and Ed Manglona won the longest drive contests on holes No. 7 and 17, respectively.

SGA would hold its November Ace of the Month Tournament in conjunction with the club’s Turkey Shoot on Nov. 13, while its December Ace is scheduled a few weeks later on Nov. 27. Venues and times for both tournaments would be released soon.
