The Shell Lightning of the Commonwealth Football League and the Bud Light-Toyota Tundra of the Budweiser Cup BANMI Men’s Island-wide Basketball League continued to pile up the wins last week.

At the CPA Airport Field last Saturday, the Lightning ran their perfect record to 3-0 after bludgeoning the Barbarians 22-0. The victory came at the heels of the Shell-sponsored team’s triumphs against Express Electronics Eagles on opening day and the Tinian Typhoon across the channel two weeks ago.

Toyota Tundra, meanwhile, avenged their opening day loss to Michelob-Brothers by exacting an emphatic 128-109 drubbing against their rivals Wednesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. The win was the seventh straight for the defending champions going back to the first round.

On Saturday, the 10th Annual Club at the Hyatt Golf Classic teed off at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort with the foursome of Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho, Sasaki Oliver, Tony Benavente, and Alex Aquininoc emerging victorious in the four-man best-ball scramble affair.

The evening before, Steven Pixley, Noriko Jim, and Crosby Schultz sprinted first to the finish line in the inaugural Club at the Hyatt Golf Classic’s 5-Kilometer Fun Run, also held at the Laolao’s west course.

The past week also saw No Zone and Department of Community and Cultural Affairs arrange a finals tiff in the 2005 Inter-Government Slow-Pitch Softball League at the Tan Ge Field.

On Wednesday’s Final Four, No Zone blasted the Governor’s Office 33-12, while DCCA routed Department of Labor 27-4 to set up the championship match-up.

In this year’s 35-and-over Masters Basketball League, Heinz & Dave Proa grabbed the first finals slot after beating Pepsi, 117-87, last Saturday at the Northern Marianas College Gymnasium. On the same day, Verizon eliminated defending champion Old Aces, 94-73.

Action in the 18-and-under Rotary cage league, four-person beach volleyball, high school Rocball, and the Masters of the Saipan Major League also continued last week.
