No Zone makes date with DCCA
A day after crushing the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation 21-5 at Tan Ge Softball Field, No Zone dispatched the Governor’s Office 33-12 on Wednesday night on the strength of a late-game surge in the continuation of the Inter-Government Slow-Pitch Softball League.
No Zone’s 21-run explosion in the sixth inning broke open a 12-12 tie and earned them the right to vie for the championship tonight when they take on the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs at 7:30pm at the Oleai Sports Complex.
After taking a 9-1 lead in the third, No Zone watched their lead slip away as the Gov’s scored six runs in the bottom of the inning and followed it up with five in the bottom of the fourth to take a 12-9 advantage.
No Zone answered with three to tie the game in their next at bat before blowing the game wide open with 21 hits—including five homeruns.
Their date in the finals experienced similar success on the field as the DCCA demoralized the Department of Labor with a 27-4 beat down to move into the finals.
Unlike No Zone, DCCA didn’t waste anytime in the semifinal as they broke open a 3-3 tie in the top of the second by scoring 14 runs off of 15 hits, and the club never looked back by scoring two more in the third and eight in the fourth.
Eventually the umpires decided that DOL had enough and invoked the 20-run mercy rule after the fifth inning.
On the women’s side, Finance earned a bid to the finals after shortchanging CUC 26-10. Finance will take on PSS tonight in the finale after opening up on CUC with 21 runs in the first three innings.
From there on out it was a cake walk, but Finance was playing their only game of the night, while CUC had to recover from an emotional comeback win over the Department of Public Health.
After trailing 6-0 through the first three innings, CUC rallied to score 14 runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good before finishing off their sisters in the health field, 18-8.
