In its continuing effort to assemble the best team for the upcoming 2005 Micronesian Athletics Championships, Northern Marianas Athletics has set another qualifying trial at the end of the month.

NMA coaches director Elias Rangamar said yesterday that the qualifying trial will be held next Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility.

Rangamar said all athletes interested in competing under the CNMI flag in the December Championships must qualify for one of the three slots allotted to the Commonwealth in each event.

Trial registration begins at 2pm with the competition beginning immediately after.

The Championships will be held on Dec. 14 and 15 on Saipan and will play host to about 100 athletes from the CNMI, Guam, Palau, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, and Kiribati.

More trials will be held in the near future and dates will be released soon.

During the Championships, Team CNMI will be led by head coach Bob Winkfield.

The NMA is also welcoming anyone interested in volunteering to assist officials before and during the Championships.

Meanwhile, the NMA will hold a meeting this afternoon at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room to further discuss important issues relating to the Championships.

Also to be discussed are the results of the NMA logo making contest, which was launched in hopes of giving the newly renamed association a new image.
