Jess Palacios has done such a good job as the captain of Galuti (3-0) that his team didn’t even have to show up to the Pacific Islands Club on Tuesday night to secure sole possession of first place in the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League, as K.C. Rengular, Linda Anastacio, Peter Bocago, Aleric Aguon, Tito Francisco, and Catherine Chapman took the top spot when Palaksi (4-1) fell from the ranks of the undefeated against the Hot Myx (3-1).

After cruising through their first four games without a loss, Palaksi took one on the chin to Theo Wong and company in a three-set sweep. After pounding Palaksi in the first set 11-5, Wong threw power slammer Marconi Calindas in to the Myx for the clincher in the second, 11-6.

With the win already in hand, the squad continued to Myxify the competition in the third and final set with an 11-3 win to complete the sweep, and advance into fourth place.

America F@ Yeah! (3-1) also fell from grace at Jon Cramer’s place when Got Beer? (3-1) took two of three at the PIC.

The beer cravers uncapped a win in the first set, 11-2, but quickly took a shot from the Team American in the second, 11-3. The battle that ensued in the third awoke the volleyball gods as the spirits released a deluge upon the teams, but Got Beer? persevered shrugged off the runoff to win the rubber match, 11-5.

Bouncing back from defeat has eluded the Sugoi Seven (0-4) early into the season, but it isn’t because of a lack of opportunities, as the winless wonders added another “L” to their record after falling to You’re My Boy Blue! (2-2).

Dale Roberts and the Blue didn’t waste any time in the match by taking the first set, 4-11, on the strength of up-and-coming server Paul Gauci’s rockets that blew away the Seven’s back court.

The Seven showed a little promise when they rebounded with an 11-6 win in the second set, but their glee soon turned to misery as Roberts, Gauci, Beny Mettao, and Rob Eply moved deftly to take the third, 11-2.

The Eagles of Grace Christian Academy (0-4) share the Seven’s pain, as they have yet to win at the PIC, but the mini-leapers gave Aschaabw (2-2) a run for their money by taking the game to the limit.

After missing out in extra points in the opening set, 12-10, GCA notched their second set win of the season to even the count at one apiece, 11-9.

The Eagles communicated well, but in the end they were no match for Dustin Rhode, Hank Magofña, Sheila Francisco, and Rob Jordan in the third, and fell for the fourth time, 11-4.
