William S. Reyes Elementary School principal Alfred B. Ada is asking the local community for help in solving the burglary incident that occurred at the school last weekend.

The Chalan Kanoa elementary school reportedly lost four desktop computers and one DVD player during the incident.

“I am pleading to the public to please inform us if they know of the whereabouts of those computers,” Ada said.

He said the lost equipment belong to the students of WSR and were provided for their technology education.

“To take them [computers] away from [the students] is not only a crime but a selfish act of greed,” he said, adding that the school has been working very hard to provide computer access to the schoolchildren and prepare them for the digital age.

“We worked very hard to procure and purchase these computers. It is a shame that we open our campuses to our community and get these encounters in return,” Ada said.

Ada said five classrooms were burglarized over the weekend. He said the backdoor of the Special Education room was forced open and perpetrators stole three desktop computers.

He said the computers are of the Element brand, in black casings, with blue connection lines.

Police reports said the incident was reported to the Department of Public Safety early Monday morning. Ada told the police that Sunday, around 12:30pm, school staff discovered that Rooms I-7 and I-1 were broken into. He said the front window was smashed but nothing was taken from both rooms.

Ada said the burglary in the three other rooms was discovered Monday morning. One teacher found that Room C-2 and Room B-4 were unlocked and that two desktop computers from each room were missing. He said Room C-4 was forced open, and that one DVD player was missing.

The principal said the teachers assured the school administration that the doors were locked Friday before they left for the weekend. The DPS is still investigating the case.

Ada said those with information about the weekend burglary at the school may contact the WSR office at 664-3971, 664-3972 and 664-3976.
