Proposed events for Micro Athletics Championships out
Northern Marianas Athletics released yesterday the proposed events for the upcoming 2005 Micronesian Athletics Championships.
Based on the events schedule provided by NMA coaches director Elias Rangamar, 15 events will be featured in the both men’s and women’s divisions, three events will be just for men, and two events will be solely for women.
The schedule indicates that both men and women will compete in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 4X100m relay, mixed medley relay, mixed distance medley relay, shot put, discus, javelin, hammer throw, long jump, triple jump, and high jump.
Only women can compete in the 3,000m and 100m hurdles, while only men can compete in the 5,000m, 10,000m, and 110m hurdles.
Rangamar, however, explained that the schedule released is just a proposal and changes may be made in the near future depending on the number of participants for each event or additional event, among others.
“This is the schedule I’m presenting to the board at our next meeting, and I will also provide it to all the delegations,” he said during an interview yesterday. “There is a possibility that changes will be made.”
The CNMI is being allowed three competitors in each event and qualifying trials are being held monthly to determine the squad, which will be coached by Bobby Winkfield.
The competition, which will be held at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility on Saipan on Dec. 14 and 15, will feature athletes, coaches, and officials from the CNMI, Guam, Palau, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Kiribati, and the Federated States of Micronesia.
So far, all visiting delegations have already confirmed competing in the Championships.
Meanwhile, NMA extends an invitation to all individuals interested in assisting and volunteering during the competition. A meeting will soon be set where all volunteers will meet with officials and go through a brief training course to prepare for the event.
