Meeting on unintended hooking of seabirds rescheduled
The Oct. 6, 2005 meeting of the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council to consider modifying proposed measures to reduce the unintended hooking of seabirds by U.S. longline fishing vessels based in Hawaii has been rescheduled to Nov. 1, 2005.

Election panel moves to Susupe
In its final preparations for the Nov. 5, 2005 general election, the Commonwealth Election Commission has moved its offices and its day-to-day operations from its Capitol Hill office to the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, Saipan beginning yesterday, Oct. 17, 2005 until Nov. 21, 2005.
The commission could still be reached through telephone number 664-VOTE and by facsimile at 664-8689. Electronic mail should continue to be addressed to cec@saipan.com and info@votecnmi.gov.mp.

Gay lipsync contest @ GIG
Saipan’s GLBT community will get a special treat this Oct. 23 (Sunday) when a party billed “Coming Out” kicks off at GIG Discotheque from 9pm to 2am.
Patterned after a Pride Party, it will be highlighted by a Gay Lipsync Contest. Criteria for judging are: Body Movement–30 percent, Facial Expression–30 percent, Audience Impact–20 percent, Costume–20 percent. Up for grabs are the following prizes : First prize, $100; 2nd prize, $75; and 3rd prize, $50.00. Partygoer with the best costume wins a hotel accommodation gift certificate.
