One-night jazz concert at Aqua Resort next month
Aqua Resort Club will be bringing in renowned jazz artists from Japan for a one-night concert dubbed “Jazz One Night” next month.
Saxophone player Sbuya Sato, bass guitarist Michio Takanabi, drummer Akihiko Hasegawa, and pianist Peter St. Ledger are expected to dazzle local jazz enthusiasts at the Achague hotel on Nov. 8 beginning at 6pm.
The event will not merely be an aural delight as the audience will also be treated to a full course dinner.
Aqua Resort Club’s sales and marketing manager Dorina M. Gabutero said the hotel came up with the one-night jazz concert to perk up business nights in the CNMI. “Jazz One Night” would be held on a Tuesday night.
“We are flying in the jazz musicians for the one-night concert to liven up the local business environment and we hope it would release the stress of everybody who happens to watch it,” she said.
While the concert is primarily aimed at local jazz lovers, Gabutero said they have also promoted the event in Japan. So far, she said Aqua Resort has already received a good number of reservations from that country.
Sato, Takanabi, Hasegawa, and St. Ledger are all established jazz musicians in Japan and have regularly played in bars and concert halls in the country’s capital, Tokyo, according to Gabutero.
Sato studied saxophone with George Viola and Charlie Mariano, two world-famous jazz musicians. He created his own band in 1985 called “Sound Shower.”
Takanabi’s achievements include a debut performance with the famous RC Succession and he completed his studies with Ron Carter in New York. He now performs with Mickey Curtis’ group in Japan.
Hasegawa is famous for his brush works. He began his career in 1975 in live houses in Tokyo and toured the U.S. in a Jazz Mobile with Charlie Parship and Freddy Wave.
St. Ledger already had some stints with a number of international recording artists such as Sheryl Crow and Holly Cole. He also recorded songs with Lisa Ono.
Gabutero said tickets for “Jazz One Night” costs $80 for front seats and $60 for regular seats. For reservation and inquiry, contact Yoshimi or Mayeth at 322-1234.
