Man killed in alleged hit-and-run
A pedestrian was killed after being allegedly hit by a vehicle along Chalan Pale Arnold highway in Tanapag Friday night, but police have yet to arrest the suspect even though he presented himself to investigators after initially fleeing the scene.
Police identified the victim as Stanley Aguon Matagolai, a Kagman III resident, who was declared dead on arrival at the Commonwealth Health Center minutes after the road accident happened.
Acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the motorist involved in the accident initially fled the scene. But he added that the motorist returned to the scene later with his father. He did not disclose the identities of the father and son.
David said the motorist was taken to the Department of Public Safety headquarters for further interview. Until yesterday, though, he said that the motorist has not been placed under arrest, while investigation is ongoing.
Citing results of a preliminary investigation, David said the victim was crossing the highway and was walking westerly when a northbound green sedan on the inner lane fatally struck him.
The incident occurred Friday night near the Mobil gas station. Police received a call about the incident at past 9pm. Police and emergency medical personnel then responded to the scene.
