Four in first at PIC
The race for first place has a team of four unbeaten team as Palaksi, Hot Myx, and America F@&# Yeah!, joined Lick It, Stick It, Smack It atop the 15-team heap of the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League at the Pacific Islands Club.
Palaksi was the first of the newcomers to climb to 2-0 as they made quick work of the Marianas High School Dolphins by taking all three sets from the winless students, 11-4, 11-4, and 11-9.
The kids stumbled into the last place club alongside the kids from Saipan International School, the Sugoi Seven, Grace Christian Academy, and Pugua Time! three nights into the season.
The GCA Eagles fell further into winless bliss as their wings were clipped by You’re My Boy Blue! (1-1) in straight sets, 11-3, 11-2, and 11-7. GCA is still in the hunt for its first set win of the season—a feat which has not eluded the powerful players of Pugua Time!
Kelly Butcher, Joe Mettao, Taula and Kadya Peter tackled that task in an 11-0 white washing of Puff, Puff, Pass in their second set to even up the match, but they took their second loss on the chin when Quincy Johnson and company won the rubber match 11-5 to even their record at 1-1.
Tragedy was averted on Thursday night as Theo Wong’s Hot Myx improved to 2-0 by handing Namete its first defeat in sweeping fashion, 11-8, 5-11, and 11-3. While Wong was delivering the news of the day, first overall draft pick Nan Intharaluk was delivering the ball to his teammates as they doused Daryl Atalig’s dreams of an undefeated season.
America F@&# Yeah! also extended their record to 2-0 after downing Dustin Rhode and Aschaabw (1-1) in a close game that went down to the third set. After taking the first set with relative ease, 11-4, Mark McDonald and his patriotic passers suffered a minor setback in the war on tandem tandems 11-8, before liberating the oppressed points from Aschaabw, 11-3.
