Swimmers, table tennis stars honored

The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted a series of resolutions congratulating the CNMI’s swimmers and table tennis team for winning gold, bronze, and silver medals at the Palau 2005 VII South Pacific Mini Games.

At the final showdown of the Mini Games, the CNMI ranked No. 6 with a total of 23 medals (4 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze).

The Mini Games kicked off on July 24, 2005, and was held through Aug. 4, 2005, and was participated in by the best athletics and coaches from the South Pacific countries of New Caledonia, Fiji, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Palau, Cook Islands, Federated Stated of Micronesia, Tonga, CNMI, Solomons Islands, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, Marshall Islands, Niue, Norfolk, Tuvalu, and American Samoa.

The four gold medals were earned by Team Aquathon Anneka Sakovich, Dirk Sharer, and Stephan Samoyloff with 4:07.07 time on Aug. 3, 2005; women Aquathon Anneka Sakovich with 1:21.03 time on Aug. 3, 2005; Women 100 Freestyle Nina Mosley with 1:00.37 time on July 25, 2005; and Women 50M Freestyle Nina Mosley with 28.09 time on July 29, 2005.

The 12 silver medals were earned by Men 100M Butterfly David M. Palacios with a 1:00.07 time on July 28, 2005; Men 50M Backstroke David M. Palacios with 28.75 time on July 25, 2005; Women 800M Freestyle Relay Caroline Coleman-Moala, Nicole Calvo, Amanda Johnson, and Nina Mosley with 9:24.50 time on July 25, 2005; Women 200M Freestyle Nina Mosley with 2:12.58 time on July 26, 2005; Women 400M Nina Mosley with 4:46.251 time on July 26, 2005; Men 50M Butterfly David M. Palacios with 27.12 time on July 27, 2005; Women 100M Backstroke Nina Mosley with 1:10.12 time on July 27, 2005; Women 400M Freestyle Relay Caroline Coleman-Moala, Minerva Cabrera, Nina Mosley and Nicole Calvo with 4:19.26 time on July 27, 2005; Women 50M Butterfly Nina Mosley with 30.73 time on July 28, 2005; Men 400M Medley Relay Michael Camacho, Rezne Wong, David M. Palacios, and Juan Camacho with 4:24.21 time on July 19, 2005; and Women 5KM Open Water Swim Nina Mosley with 1:16:33.04 time on July 30, 2005.

The seven bronze medals were earned by Women 400M IM Nina Mosley with 5:33.41 time on July 25, 2005; Women 200M Breaststroke Myana Welch with 2:53.35 time on July 26, 2005; Women 100M Breaststroke Minerva Cabrera with 1:20.03 time on July 27, 2005; Women 200M Backstroke Nina Mosley with 2:35.84 time on July 29, 2005; Women 5KM Open Water Swim Caroline Coleman-Moala with 1:19:39.89 time on July 30, 2005; Men’s Table Tennis team Linying Chen, Bughi Gurung, Yongdong Su and Steven Lim; and Women’s Aquathon Caroline Melissa Coleman with 1:26.01 time on Aug. 3, 2005.

The Mini Games coaches from the CNMI were Elias Rangamar and Chris Porco, athletics; Tony Rogolifoi and Jason Gay, baseball; Steve Nguyen, Nan Intharaluk and Jon Kramer, beach volleyball; Rob Erikson and Edward Johnson, outrigger; Patrick P. Tenorio, Joseph Sakisat and Robert A. Guerrero, softball; Michael Stewart, swimming; Steve Lim, table tennis; Jeff Race, tennis; Stephan Samoyloff, triathlon; Joe Ocampo, wrestling; and chef de mission Michael A. White.

“The members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI are extremely proud to extend a sincere and heartfelt appreciation, congratulation and commendation to the CNMI participants at the Palau 2005 VII South Pacific Mini Games for a job well done,” part of the resolutions read.

The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela. (PR)
