SSA to convene next week
A little more than a week after free-swinging Tony Camacho and Verizon shot down the Flyers in the Saipan Softball Association’s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League finals, the new SSA commander-in-chief is already planning for the future of local longball as newly elected president Ray Palacios is calling for a meeting of the minds next week to discuss the varying velocities for the new year.
According to Palacios, the SSA is now turning its focus toward the Island-Wide Men’s Fast Pitch Softball League and the formation of an Island-Wide Women’s Slow Pitch League as well.
“We’re looking at talking about the dates for opening day as well as the registration fees as well as the selection process for the all-stars,” said Palacios.
Though the league has yet to add a team to the schedule, the all-star selection process will be as important as the practice that the players will get from the nightly competition as Saipan will host the top teams from the region next summer during the 2006 Micronesian Games.
Palacios said that there will be an additional meeting before the start of the season to continue planning for the future.
The sages of softball will meet Wednesday night in the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium to discuss the men’s league and on Thursday night for the women’s league. Both meetings will be at 6pm.
