To jazz up its political campaign, the Covenant Party is bringing back a popular comic group from Guam this weekend for a political fundraising event.

Covenant Party advertising committee chair Charles Reyes said the party will be featuring the Malafunkshun Boys during its “Ben & Tim’s Fundraising for Better Times” event this Saturday, Oct. 8, at Hyatt Regency Saipan.

Reyes said the event promises to veer away from the usual “boring” and “drab” political campaigns the island has come to know in the past.

The event costs $30 per person, which covers dinner, an open bar, and the hilarious live comedy entertainment that has become the calling card of Malafunkshun Boyz.

Malafunkshun Boyz first came to Saipan in June 2004 and staged a one-night concert at the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach’s Hibiscus Hall.

Returning for this year’s comedy show are Guam’s very funny and outrageous Chris Barnett, Julius Santos, and Andy Wheeler.

The night will open up with the Malafunkshun Boys doing stand-up comedy as well as featuring many of their popular and hilarious songs from their CDs such as the classic “I Like Your Barbecue” and “Pugua.”

Last year’s concert impressed a huge audience despite the steady drizzle that enveloped Saipan before, during, and after the event.

Dai-Ichi’s Hibiscus Hall reverberated with the laughter of the over 400 people who braved the weather just to see the Malafunkshun Boyz perform their usual antics.

Malafunkshun Boys are DJs of Guam’s Hot 94 FM. Through their regular repartee and on-air spiels that combine humor with political commentary, they make people aware of current issues facing the community.
