The Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association will hold its monthly meeting today at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.

The meeting will be called to order at 6:30pm, with the main agenda being the hosting and preparations for the 2006 Micronesian Games.

During the previous meeting last month, NMASA president Mike White encouraged all participating sport delegations for the CNMI in next year’s Games to submit the names of coaches and their qualifications at today’s meeting.

Among the sports proposed to be featured during the Games, which will be held from June 23 to July 7, include athletics, basketball, baseball for men, beach volleyball, golf, softball, slow pitch softball, spear fishing, sailing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, outrigger canoeing, volleyball, wrestling for men, weightlifting, and Micronesian all around.

Before adjourning the last meeting, White reiterated the importance of being well prepared for the competition and stressed that the task to prepare for the Games is “monumental” because of all that needs to be done in the span of less than nine months.

An executive order creating the executive committee for the Games is still waiting to be signed by the governor. Also, the House of Representatives had passed a bill appropriating about $550,000 for the construction of the grandstands for the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field and the Miguel B. Pangelinan Softball Field.

Also to be discussed at the meeting are the athletes of the month for September. (Shan Seman)
