Bananas and Senoritas were blazing through the inaugural Drug Free Volleyball Tournament and lived up to their expectations to rule their respective divisions Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

A total of 10 teams competed in the double-elimination tournament, with five in each division.

Bananas began their campaign by beating Shag, and followed up with a victory over CPC to secure a slot in the championship game, where they clashed with CPC again and got the same result to take home the coveted championship crown.

In their run to a respectable second place, CPC defeated the Ayuyus before dropping to Bananas in the regular round. They faced the Ayuyus again and won to earn the right to face Bananas in the finale.

Ayuyus earned the right to face CPC with victories over the Eagles and Shag.

Meanwhile, the Senoritas breezed to the championship game by downing the Ayuyus in their opening bout. The Eagles also won in their debut, but fell to the Senoritas to drop to the loser’s bracket and give Senoritas a slot in the title match.

The Eagles, however, were not shaken and came back to defeat Jig to force a rematch, only to falter and finish a respectable second place.

Jig took third place after beating CGC, a win that enabled them to advance to play the Eagles.

The tournament was hosted by the Community Guidance Center with the main purpose of promoting drug free activities for families and the community, as well as healthier living through exercise.
