A man is facing theft and forgery charges at the Superior Court for allegedly defrauding two wholesale companies by placing bulk orders of food items on behalf of companies that he did not truly represent.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, 32-year-old John Namauleg first pretended to be a representative of Kimpachi Restaurant on Sept. 6 and received five cases of Spam and four cases of corned beef from the D & Q Wholesale in Chalan Kiya.

On Sept. 23, Namauleg repeated the same modus operandi and pretended to represent the Pacific Islands Club, according to acting CNMI chief prosecutor Jeffrey Warfield.

Warfield said Namauleg received two cases each of shrimp and chicken wings from Yaong Corp.

Warfield said the amount of goods taken from D & Q totaled some $241, while the goods taken from Yaong amounted to $541.39.

The prosecutor lodged the charges against Namauleg Friday. The charges include two counts each of forgery and theft by deception. (John Ravelo)
