Just a week and a half separate a large group of avid runners from the finish line as those looking to get their “runner’s high” during the 9th Annual Rota Fiesta Half-Marathon can almost taste the coming rush brought on by sighting the time clock.

Before any of them strap on their sneakers and tear out onto the 13.1-mile course they will have to eat plenty of food the night before and see to their hydration for a day under the sun, and the organizers are helping them help themselves.

The half marathon is slated for Saturday, Oct. 8, but the time to make reservations is now. With people racing to snatch any remaining seats on the limited flights and booking rooms at local hotels, advanced planning is a must when traveling to the CNMI’s southernmost destination.

According to race coordinator Joshua Berger, long-distance runners will be getting a break with their pre-race meal from the Marianas Visitors Authority, which has discounted the spaghetti feed at the Pizzaria to $5.

Those looking to pile on the carbohydrates can get their fill at on Friday, Oct. 7, at 7pm, following the pre-race briefing at the Rota Roundhouse at 6:30pm.

Those dragging their feet need to submit their applications along with the $10 fee as soon as possible. While the participants will still be able to sign up on race day, they are not guaranteed a commemorative T-shirt unless their money is received at the Law Offices of S. Joshua Berger in Garapan. For more information about the race, contact Berger by calling 235-8060.
