Breeze beat Bwibwiis, Sonics get free win
The Capitol Hill Breeze got another big performance from Syl Tellei to defeat the Bwibwiis, while the Southern Sonics kept their perfect record intact courtesy of a free win as the 2005 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League continued Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Evenly matched against the Bwibwiis, the Breeze had to first rely on Zack Joab, who nailed three baskets early in the game to get their charge started.
The Breeze then relied on their balanced scoring before Tellei caught fire, took over, and scored eight of the team’s last 12 points to lift the team to a 45-40 victory.
For his part, Maverick Saures posted a respectable performance as he went off for 11 points to lead the Bwibwiis.
Meanwhile, the Sonics, who with the Garapan Rollers I are the only unbeaten teams in the league, was expected to be tested by Toyota Camry, which entered Tuesday riding a winning streak of its own.
The two, however, never got the chance to battle as Camry had to give in via forfeit.
League action continued last night with Hoops squaring up against the G-Rollers II. Results were available as of press time.
Action resumes this evening with Breeze taking on the Chalan Kanoa Saints at 5:30pm and the San Antonio Sixers II battling San Antonio.
