A 33-year-old man driving a moped was hurt in an accident when he struck a traffic island along Beach Road in Susupe early Saturday morning.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Catherine Sheu said the victim was traveling northbound when he hit the island located in front of World Resort Saipan at 1:53am.

The moped driver, whom Sheu did not identify, was immediately taken to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was admitted for treatment.

Sheu said another vehicular accident was recorded earlier at 12:21am when DPS officers arrested a man for reckless driving and DUI.

She said driver Rolando A. Florencio, 47, hit a pickup truck that was parked near the Hyatt Regency Saipan in Garapan.

Sheu said police assistance was immediately requested and they found out that Florencio also violated other traffic regulations. He was immediately taken to the Department of Corrections for detention. (Marconi Calindas)
