Building fund is biggest recipient of SIS Fun Run
Betty Johnson, the driving force behind the 5th Annual Saipan International School 5K Fun Run set for this Saturday, Oct. 1, said proceeds from the event would go directly into the school’s building fund.
Participation in the annual fun run costs $10, which not only entitles runners to a free T-shirt and an opportunity to win terrific prizes in a raffle to be held after the run, but also gives them a chance to contribute to a worthy cause.
Like the previous stagings of the fun run, the SIS 5K event would start at Banzai Cliff in Marpi with participants running toward the 2.5-kilometer turnaround near the Marpi Sanitary Landfill before retracing the marks made by their running shoes back to the finish line at Banzai Cliff. Registration begins as early as 6:30am and the start is set an hour later at 7:30am.
Last year, longtime distance runner and CNMI National Triathlon Team veteran Dirk Sharer won the race in a lightning-quick time of 19:24. He was followed by Russ Quinn (20:05) and Ketson “Jack” Kabiriel (20:15). The latter still holds the event record of 18:59, which he set in 2001.
Topping the women’s category, meanwhile, was Suzanne Kindel, who crossed the finish line in 24:57. She was followed by Teanna Stevensen (25:05) and Vicki Taitano (25:23).
