Sparks, Toyota win in blowout fashion
The Matansa Sparks and Toyota Camry had their way and turned back their opponents via blowout fashion as the 2005 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League continued Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
In the opener, the Sparks dominated all facets of their game against the young Hoops to pull out an easy 75-37 victory.
The Sparks had their game faces on and were all fired up in the first half, holding Hoops to 16 points while torching the net for 36 points for a 20-point spread at the break.
Spearheading the opening attack were Jose Ulloa, Jonathan Salas, and Ken Deleon Guerrero, who poured in seven points apiece, each hitting a triple and two field goals.
Hoops got a huge lift and put up a better offensive showing in the second half courtesy of Foster Dela Cruz, who scored all his nine points in the late charge.
The Hoops cagers, however, weren’t able to put a dent on the Sparks’ lead as the Matansa team continued with its scoring spree, closing out with a 39-point performance in the final 20 minutes.
Ulloa led all scorers with 15 points, while Salas and Deleon Guerrero finished with 13 and 11 points for the Sparks.
In the second game, the Camry cagers distanced themselves from their opponents with a superb second half to defeat the San Antonio Sixers II, 90-50.
The Sixers II put up a respectable fight in the opening half and trailed by just 10 points heading into the break, but as action resumed, the deficit quickly increased as Toyota went on a rampage, combining to drill in a whopping 52 points to secure the win.
Kovin Ogumoro led Toyota with 19 points, while Javon Tarkong and Jeff Pagarao supported him with 17 and 14 points. Steve Kim also chipped in 11 points.
Nathan Flores had 11 points for the Sixers II.
Rotary action continued yesterday as powerhouses San Antonio Sixers I and Garapan Rollers I tested each other. Action continues today with Toyota battling the Southern Sonics in the opener and the Bwibwiis taking on Breeze in the nightcap.
