VFW donate-a-dollar for hurricane relief
This weekend, Saipan Post 3457, along with VFW posts around the world, will hold fundraising events as part of relief efforts for those affected by the twin hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
“Just when we thought that things couldn’t get worse along came Rita. Our local VFW Posts in Louisiana, Mississippi and now Texas are under a great deal of physical, financial and emotional stress. VFW volunteers are providing food, shelter, clothing and other necessities to people displaced by these disasters. They really need our help,” said VFW Saipan Post 3457 commander Barry Hirshbein.
He said that the national VFW organization has already sent over $320,000 to affected areas. Visit the VFW’s national website at www.vfw.org to find out more.
“We are sincerely thankful to those who have already contributed. For those who have not please consider a donation, no matter how small, for this cause,” Hirshbein said. “We need your help in order to make this a success. As you drive along Beach Road please drop by the VFW Post Home and donate a dollar.”
The VFW Saipan Post 3457 opens at 4pm on weekdays.
A raffle/auction will be held this Friday, Sept. 30, starting at 6pm. Hirshbein is urging private businesses to donate new items or gift certificates for that event.
A parking lot sale will then be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, starting at 8am. “We would be happy to receive your donations of new and good condition used items for sale at that event.”
Both events will be held at the VFW Post Home on Beach Road in the former California Hotel Building. “We can receive your donations there or you can reach me by email at cnmilaw@yahoo.com or phone at 236-0904 and we can arrange for pickup<’ said Hirshbein. (PR)
