NMITFF sets qualifying trials for Micro Cup
The Northern Mariana Islands Track and Field Federation announced that it would start holding qualifying trials for available slots for the upcoming 2005 Micronesian Cup.
This according to NMITFF coaches’ director Elias Rangamar, who disclosed yesterday that the first trial would be held on Oct. 1 at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field oval, beginning at 4pm.
More trials will be held in the coming months and dates will be released soon.
Rangamar said the main track and field events that would be featured during the trials include sprints, middle distance, and throws.
“Anyone interested in representing the CNMI in the Micro Cup is welcome to take part in the trials and must qualify for each event to make the CNMI team,” Rangamar said.
Team CNMI, which will be led by head coach Bob Winkfield, is allowed only three slots in each event for both the male and female category.
Rangamar also extended on behalf of NMITFF an invitation to anyone interested in volunteering to assist officials before and during the games.
The Micro Cup will be held on Dec. 14 and 15 and will play host to about 100 tracksters from Guam, CNMI, Palau, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, and Kiribati.
Meanwhile, the NMITFF will hold a board meeting tomorrow at 3:30pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room to discuss important matters regarding the Micro Cup.
