Election Commission launches program about the two questions in Nov. election
Starting Sept. 19, 2005, the Commonwealth Election Commission will air a public education program on KMCV Channel 7 about the two questions included on the ballot on the general election this Nov. 5, 2005.
The program will provide the CNMI voters with information on the following questions:
1. Shall there be a constitutional convention to propose amendments to the Constitution? Yes or No.; and
2. Shall Justice or Judge (name of justice or judge) of the (name of court) be retained in office? Yes or No.
The initial broadcast on Monday, Sept. 19, at 7pm will be in Chamorro. CEC executive director Gregorio C. Sablan will answer the questions about the two issues. The English and Carolinian versions of the program will be aired on Sep. 26 and Oct. 3, respectively.
“The Commonwealth Election Commission has embarked on a public education campaign in order to inform the general public about these two issues and to assist the Commonwealth electorate in making informed choices when they cast their votes on Nov. 5. 2005,” said Sablan.
Sablan will discuss what a constitutional convention is, the process and other general questions about holding a constitutional convention.
The program will also cover the judicial retention question. This year’s question applies to Supreme Court Chief Justice Miguel Sablan Demapan, Associate Justice Alexandro Cruz Castro and Superior Court Associate Judge David Arthur Wiseman.
The program will be broadcast on the following dates:
* Sept. 19, 2005, Monday, 7pm (Chamorro). Replays will be on Sept. 20, 22 and 24.
* Sept. 26, 2005, Monday, 7pm (English)
* Oct. 3, 2005, Monday, 7pm (Carolinian)
Replays for the English and Carolinian versions will be scheduled on the week of the broadcast. The program will run until Nov. 4, 2005.
