AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS’ PARENT NIGHT

Parents who have children with autism spectrum disorders are being invited to a Parent Night on Saipan Tuesday next week, Sept. 20, 2005.

The event will be held from 6:30pm to 8pm at the cafeteria of the William S. Reyes Elementary School in Chalan Kanoa, Saipan.

Special guest speaker for the night is Rina Marie Leon Guerrero of the University of Washington.

Leon Guerrero, who is originally from Guam, currently works at the Experimental Education Unit at the University of Washington in Seattle. The EEU provides preschool and early elementary education services for students with autism spectrum disorders, using a variety of treatment methodologies, but focusing on Applied Behavior Analysis. For more information, visit www.pdacenter.org or http://depts.washington.edu/pdacent/index.html

The main focus of Parent Night is to bring together parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. The most important aspect is to allow parents to communicate with each other.

“Feel free to bring some snacks or drinks to share with others, but please don’t feel obligated to do so,” according to a statement from the organizers.

For more information, contact Julie Sarich at WSR School at 664-3975.

Leon Guerrero’s trip to Saipan is part of an autism training opportunity provided to PSS Special Education, and is fully funded by U.S. Department of Education—Office of Special Education Programs. (PR)
