Southern’s Aranda leading Rotary scoring
Southern Sonics forward Rowell Aranda continues to shine on the hard court, and this time, is making his presence felt in the ongoing Saipan Rotary Summer Youth Basketball League.
The Saipan Southern High School student who played a big role in leading his school to the championship game of recent MISA High School Basketball League earlier in the year is doing it again and leads all cagers suiting up in the Rotary league scoring department, average 29 points per game after putting the rock through the hoop for 114 points in just four games, all of which were won.
Trailing by just a bit is guard Luis Reyes of the Chalan Kanoa Saints, who like Aranda, played in only four games when all scores were calculated.
The veteran has punched in a total of 102 points for an average of 26 points per outing.
Speedy guard Manuel Ajoste and Kevin Cequena of the San Antonio Sixers I follow as the one-two punch each give coach Ryan Nisperos at least 20 points per game.
Ajoste has seen action in six bouts and worked his magic for 135 points for an average of 23 points per game, while Cequena played five games, scoring 110 points for an average of 22 points per game.
Pete Iguel is also having another sensational season and spearheads the hard working Garapan Rollers I with 87 points in four games. His efforts result in a fifth-best average of 21 points per game.
Phenom Josh Sablan of San Antonio is also living up to expectations as he finds his name on the list again with an average of 16.4 points per bout after torching the nets of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium for 115 points in seven games, while cat-quick guard Jeff Deleon Guerrero of Toyota sits in the No. 7 spot after pumping in 60 points in four games for an average of 15 points per game.
Rounding up the elite scorers as of Aug. 25 are Don Teregeyo of the G-Rollers II, Joemar Tumaquip of the G-Rollers I, and Jon Lim of the Sixers I.
Teregeyo leads his young team with 12.2 points per game, scoring 73 points in six games, while Tumaquip continues to give coach Joe Diaz well-played minutes and has contributed 47 points in four games for to average 12 points per game.
Lim, meanwhile, has played well in support of Ajoste and Cequena and averages 11.4 points per game. He posted 57 points after five games.
