Rocball comes back to life
Action on the rocball court will soon make a return, with all the kees, goals, and xunks expected to begin hitting the stat sheets next month.
This according to rocball founder and coordinator of all World Organized Rocball activities James Feger, who disclosed yesterday that the WOR High School League is already being organized.
Feger encouraged all interested individuals to begin organizing teams and prepping for the start of the competition.
As in the past, no entrance fee is required.
Last season, Mwaliyas stamped their names in the history books after working above all teams, ending their charge with a 3-1 championship series victory over SKN.
SKN put up a strong push in hopes of forcing a decisive fifth match, however, came up short as Darrel Roligat nailed a kee to give Mwaliyas a 39-37 clincher.
Mwaliyas’ Pedro Iguel efforts earned him the most valuable player plum for the playoffs of the recent World Organized Rocball High School League, connecting for an ace and two xunks, but did most of his damage with kees and goals. The 16-year-old found the net of the goal five times in the series, two of which were hammered during the title clinching game, and put a hurt on the ball as a goalie for seven kills.
In all, Iguel accounted for 35 points in the series.
All matches will be held at the Marianas High School Gymnasium or the school’s Green Court located just north of the gym.
Feger began organizing and writing about the sport while in Japan in 1979. After two years of experimenting, the sport finally progressed into a tournament in 1983.
The sport has evolved since it was first played, and has even caught attention from around the world, with interest coming from the United States, Europe, and India. Feger said he received inquiries from companies like Eurosport, a popular sports channel, and Crackerjax, an Arizona Sports Theme Park, inquiring about the sport.
All teams interested in joining the league are encouraged to contact Feger at 664-3810 or 288-8722.
