Local athletes to give “Wayne” a tri
A little more than three months have passed since Olivier Marceau and Jamie Whitmore took the tape in the 16th Annual Tagaman Triathlon through the archway at the American Memorial Park and aside from the CNMI’s team training for the Mini-SPG’s, the local multisport scene has been pretty quiet.
All of that is about to change as the organizers of the Try Wayne Tri are planning to sashay their event to the shores of Saipan with the Try Wayne Tri II.
The first race of its kind in the CNMI will break the summer doldrums on Monday, Sept. 5, at 7:30am as participants of varying degrees of physical fitness are welcome to join in the casual concert of coordination.
The race entails a 1.2km swim around the semi-submerged WWII era tanks in the Saipan lagoon, a 20km bike to the seaport in Puerto Rico and back, and a 5km run to the Japanese tank at Quartermaster Road, but don’t be fooled by the distances as the event is not focused on high speeds and low times.

Raiders Field paintball to be resheduled
Mother Nature claimed another victim of the local sports world over the weekend as the eighth installment of the monthly CNMI Inter-Island Paintball Tournament at Raiders Field was cancelled due to inclement weather.
“It’s hard to play when it’s raining and it’s no fun. It’s also no good for the equipment when they play in the rain,” she said.
Rueter vowed that the event will be rescheduled, but the dates have not yet been released. More than likely, the real colors of fake war will return before the end of the month to allow teams to vie for one of the four remaining slots in the year end invitation only tournament.
The cost of registration is $10 to enter your squad into the color war, with an additional $5 fee for marker rental if necessary. For more information, contact tournament coordinator Norma Rueter by calling 286-0809.
