TOC loaded with hole-in-one prizes
Players competing in the 10th Annual Tournament of Champions will not only have their eyes fixed on winning their respective flights, as organizers have received confirmation from several generous sponsors for special hole-in-one prizes that will be up for grabs.
Among the prizes include a Toyota Camry sponsored by Microl, one Continental Airlines ticket, and one Sergio Garcia Omega Watch valued at $3,500 sponsored by TOC on the 168-yard Hole No. 3 of the West Course of the Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort.
The West Course also features $10,000 cash sponsored by TOC, a Yamaha Outboard Engine sponsored by Joeten Motors, and one Continental Airlines ticket on Hole No. 7, which stretches 160 yards from the tee to the hole.
Up for grabs at the 173-yard Hole No. 13 are $75,000 cash shouldered by Aon Insurance, a 2006 Hyundai Sonata sponsored by Triple J Motors, and a Club Car Golf Cart provided by PacSports, Ltd, while Hole No. 17 sports a car from Joeten Motors and one Continental Airlines ticket.
Prizes on the East Course include a Toyota Tacoma sponsored by Microl, one Continental Airlines ticket, and $10,000 cash sponsored by TOC on Hole No. 4; a Continental Airlines ticket, one Yamaha 80cc Pee Wee motorcycle sponsored by TOC, and another Continental Airlines ticket for Hole No. 6.
Aon Insurance is shouldering another $75,000 cash prize on Hole No. 11, which also features prizes such as a 2006 Mazda 5 Wagon sponsored by Triple J Motors and one Northwest Airlines ticket.
Hole No. 15 also showcases prizes such as one Asiana Airlines ticket and one Yamaha generator courtesy of Joeten Motors.
The TOC tees off on August 6 and concludes the next day.
Registration before July 29 will cost $200 and increases to $225 after the mentioned date. No entry forms will be accepted after 5pm on Aug. 3.
Organizers have also indicated that no walk-ons will be accepted for the tournament.
The popular annual golf tournament features competitions in the Championship Flight, A Flight, B Flight, C Flight, Senior Flight, Super Senior Flight, Ladies Low Gross, and Ladies Low Net.
At stake are cash and in-kind prizes as well as a year’s worth of bragging rights. First place winners receive $600, second place $500, third place $400, fourth place a DVD player, and fifth place $100 DFS merchandise coupon.
Top three finishers in the Ladies Low Net competition will also receive trophies.
Also, the names of the top winners of all flights, except the Ladies Low Net, will be raffled to determine the 2006 participant in the Johnnie Walker Classic, which will be held in Perth, Australia in February 2006.
The tournament also features “The Million Dollar Shootout.” Possible winnings for the shootout is marked at $10-million, with $1-million possible on each shot. A total of 10 shots will be attempted, with participants of each shot selected through a raffle drawing.
Also, a Governor’s Sponsor Luncheon will also be held on July 22 from 11am to 1pm at the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach Hibiscus Hall, and a Player’s Banquet will be held on Aug. 7 from 6pm to 10pm at the Dai-Ichi poolside.
Johnnie Walker is also hosting a cocktail party for the sponsors and players on Aug. 5, from 6pm to 8pm at the Aqua Resort Club Lobby Bar.
Last year, Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho won his second straight title, recording a score of 73 on the first round and a 75 in the second for a total of 148 to win the Championship Flight.
Yasuhito Irinaka (76-81-157) finished first in the A Flight while Young Jin Jun (79-80-159) topped the B Flight. It was Edward Cho (89-87-176) who was all alone in the C Flight while Jesus Taitano (72-78-150) won the Senior category.
Serafin Pablo (88-76-164) took the top prize in the Super Seniors (88-76-164).
For the ladies, it was Noriko Togawa (85-81-166) who finished with the lowest gross score. The lowest net score for the ladies was reeled in by Rose Tarpley, with a total of 146.6.
