The Transportation Security Administration is still facing a personnel shortage at the Saipan International Airport, despite having exhausted its manpower pool for the island.

Rhonda Vickery, TSA federal security director for Saipan, said 67 full-time and part-time screeners are currently employed at the Saipan airport.

While Vickery refused to give an exact number of the screeners needed to serve passengers at the airport, TSA’s website states that Saipan ideally requires at least 80 screeners.

“We have exhausted our manpower pool here on Saipan. We’ve extended offers to everybody who is a qualified candidate that was in the pool,” said Vickery.

She reported that two new screeners started training two weeks ago and are expected to come on board soon. Still, TSA needs more screeners.

Representatives of Accenture Ltd., which has a human resource services contract with TSA, will be coming to the CNMI in the last week of August to assess applicants.

The local TSA office, however, has already started the recruitment process, placing advertisements on newspapers and holding job fairs on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

Vickery also urged interested individuals to apply online by logging on to www.usajobs.opm.gov.

“Because of the assessments that are upcoming, we’re putting out the word to make sure that we have as many people as we can applying online at usajobs.opm.gov. All they have to do is put Saipan for the location and then [press] “Enter.” That would give them every federal job available on Saipan, not just with TSA,” said Vickery.
