The U.S. Department of the Interior has awarded the Commonwealth Ports Authority a $7,500 grant to conduct training for its firefighting personnel.

The grant award was offered under the Office of Insular Affairs’ operations and maintenance improvement program. It required a matching fund of the same amount from CPA.

Nikolao I. Pula, director of the Office of Insular Affairs, said the grant would provide partial funding for a maintenance training program for aircraft rescue and firefighting drivers or operators.

“This grant provides $7,500 from the Department of the Interior to be supplemented with at least $7,500 from the Commonwealth Ports Authority for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Driver/Operator Maintenance Training,” Pula told Gov. Juan N. Babauta in a letter.

The federal government said at least 85 percent of those attending the training must successfully complete the courses.
